Denison University Bluegrass Festival 10th Anniversary

We are very excited this year to be performing at the 10th Anniversary Denison University Bluegrass Festival in Granville Ohio. The festival this year is going to be on February 14th and 15th. Our dear friend Andy Carlson started this Bluegrass festival and we were lucky enough to be there the first year. The first year, the Dappled Grays in our current configuration didn’t exist but Michael, Casey, Keith and Greg had recorded the album with Andy called “Beyond Boundaries” and we performed the songs from that album along.

Throughout the years, Denison had brought many great performers to this festival such as Tim O’Brien, Claire Lynch, Ronnie Bowman, David Grier, Bobby Hicks and a host of others. One of the amazing things about this festival is that these great performances were free of charge to the community.

In addition to the performances themselves, the performers do workshops for individual instruments as well as for full band performance. These too are at no charge. We have been able to see some really great talent as well as just getting to meet some great folks.

One of my favorite trips to Granville for this festival was in 2010. This year, Granville received 13 inches of snow in one night and then the weather cleared and was beautiful. We had a great late-night jam session in the pub at The Granville Inn with the members of The Infamous Stringdusters who were performing that year as well.
